Weight Loss

The U.S. obesity rate increased from 13 percent to 32 percent between the 1960s and 2004, according to researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for Human Nutrition. By 2015, it is estimated that 75% of adults will be overweight with 41% of those being obese.

Is being overweight the new normal? If it is, then having Type II Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, back and joint pain, to name just a few of the ailments associated with being overweight, will also become the new normal.

Do you know if you are overweight?

One of the key ways to determine if you are overweight or obese is by your BMI (Body Mass Index). BMI is calculated based on height and weight and is used as an estimate of how much body fat you have. The higher your BMI the greater risk you have for heart disease, Type II diabetes, high blood pressure, gallstones, breathing problems, and certain cancers.

Don't know your BMI?

Find your height and weight on the chart below then follow to the top row to find your BMI.

The BMI scores mean:

Underweight <18.5
Normal weight 18.5 - 24
Healthy Weight
Overweight 25 - 29
At high risk to devleop cardiovascular disease, diabetes, etc.
Obese 30 - 39
At higher risk to develop cardiovascular diease, heart disease, diabetes, etc., without intervention.
By lowering your weight you may potentially lower or eliminate many medications such as diabetes, blood pressure and lipid-lowering drugs. You CAN return to a healthy weight.
Extremely Obese 40+
At highest risk to develop cardiovascular disease, heart disease, diabetes, etc. without intervention.
